“Good company – St Margaret’s Centre is a great place to come and relax”
What is available:
The St Margaret’s Centre allotment is a tranquil oasis of calm in what can be an otherwise stressful world. Our hard-working volunteers and attendees grow a wide range of fruits and vegetables, which are then turned into delicious food for our café. [hyperlink to café section] There are also raised beds closer to the centre for those who are less mobile.
The garden is a quiet and relaxing place to spend time. Some people enjoy the manual work of gardening, while others enjoy chatting over a cup of tea and listening to the birds.
We are always looking for volunteers for our garden (mostly between March and October), so please visit our volunteer section [hyperlink to the ‘become a volunteer’ section] to find out more about how you can get involved.
What are the benefits:
Studies have found that the mental health benefits of gardening are extensive. Not only can regular gardening reduce mental health problems like depression and anxiety, but it can also reduce stress and combat high blood pressure, as well as improving overall physical fitness. Working in a small and friendly group has known mental health benefits, helping to build friendships and reduce social anxiety.
